The Dumfries branch of M&S were looking pretty as a picture after taking part in a “live window” display in support of Dumfries & Galloway Sands.

Fifteen employees and one customer replaced the mannequins to showcase the range of departments in store and raise funds. They have doubled their initial fundraising target of £1500 to nearly £3000 so far. Louise Mcilroy, the Dumfries manager said we are pleased to be supporting Sands.

The band, and members of Sands, travelled around the region in a bus visiting eight towns and playing for 15- 20 minutes in each High Street while the group rattled their collecting tins. It was one of the Pipe bands’ busiest days of the year but also a great opportunity to practice together and raise funds for Sands.

The day was sponsored by a local company- Dunlop’s, McCall’s coaches of Lockerbie provided the bus and Tesco provided funds to buy water and snacks. This meant all money raised went to Dumfries Sands. After an exhausting but fun day the total raised was £1000.01.

Dumfries Sands are very grateful to the Pipe band, Dunlops, McCall’s coaches and Tesco for all their support in making the day a success.

These are the photos of the “cold cot” we have been fundraising for, which we recently handed over to Cresswell.

The cold cot allows bereaved parents to spend more time with their baby. All bereaved parents cherish this precious time. The handmade insert and quilt were kindly made and donated by Mrs. Doreen Black of  Dumfries.

Pictured are Doreen with Susan and the cold cot. Alison handing over to Karen King Consultant midwife at Cresswell.

Dumfries and Galloway Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) were delighted to be presented with a cheque from June and Mike Rogerson of Dumfries (pictured along with members of the charity).  June and Mike recently celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary and very kindly asked that friends and family make a donation to Sands instead of buying presents.  June and Mike suffered their own loss, when their little boy died soon after birth in October 1972.  At that time there was no support and Sands did not exist.  In making their generous donation of £360, June and Mike hope that bereaved parents locally can continue to receive the support that they didn’t get.  Dumfries Sands would like to take this opportunity to thank the kind family and friends of June and Mike.

Dumfries and Galloway Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) were delighted to be presented with a cheque from Charles Kerr of Dumfries (pictured along with members of the charity). Charles has recently celebrated his 50th birthday and asked for donations to Sands in lieu of presents. Charles heard about Dumfries Sands through his niece who is being supported by them. Dumfries Sands would like to take this opportunity to thank Charles and his kind family and friends for the extremely generous donation of £600.

Next Support Meeting

The next support group meeting is planned for the 29th November 2017 at 7.30pm and we welcome anyone touched by the death of a baby to join us.

The meeting will be held at our office at 107 Irish Street Dumfries.

Many people feel that only others who have experienced the death of a baby can offer real understanding of the pain and heartbreak that they are feeling and the support group meetings allow you to connect with other bereaved parents, grandparents and others who share your pain and loss.

The support group is an informal setting and is only attended by people who themselves have lost a baby or their families. You will not be pressured to speak and sometimes it’s nice just to simply come along and listen.

If anyone would like more information about these meetings or would like to express an interest in attending then please email contact@dg-sands.org
