Sands and Cash for Kids Golf Day

Sunday 14th September saw a charity Golf Day held at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club in aid of Sands and Cash for kids.

The chance to be entered into a Million pound draw (if a hole in one achieved on the day) and raise money for the two charities, drew entries from an amazing 31 teams, including 5 junior teams.

Perfect golfing weather saw the first team out at 0930hrs and the last team teeing off around 1530hrs.  Nobody managed a hole in one on the day but a winning score of 86 meant that Derek Murphy, C Kirkaldie, J McGill and B Gray collected  the trophy for the best senior team.  Fraser Ciarns, D Robertson, T Robertson and L Fairbairn were the winning junior team with a score of 90.

Other winners on the day were as follows:-

Senior team runners up –  Ann McQueen, N Parkinson, K Reid and A Reid

Longest Drive (Medal) – Ian Jones

Nearest Pin (Medal) – David Bell

An amazing £1545 was raised for each charity.  Thanks go to Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club for hosting the event and Vice Captain, Billy Haining and other members for helping out on the day.  Thanks also to Graeme Anderson of Anderson Engineering, Dumfries for sponsoring the trophies and to all the other sponsors of the various holes and to everyone who donated raffle prizes.  Thanks to Grant Seaton for his help and to Tommy Jardine for his exceptional organising skills.

Important Information: Monthly Support Meetings

Over the past 6 months, no new parents have attended our monthly support meeting . We have come to the decision that we will no longer hold a regular support meeting on the last Wednesday of each month. This does not mean we will not continue to offer support to bereaved parents and their families. We will obviously respond to any requests for befriending but will arrange a date and time suitable to all parties to meet. Should the need arise to offer regular support meetings in the future we will of course arrange it. Thank you for your understanding and continued support for D&G Sands.

Gut Busting Challenge

peopleWe were delighted to be one of the charities chosen to receive a cheque from The People’s Project following their amazing gut busting challenge. In May Queen of the South players Gavin Reilly and Danny Carmichael, along with Alison Bell from DG Life magazine, Mark Jardine and John Lytham took on the challenge of completing 5000 sit ups and 5000 squats or press ups to raise money for charity. Thanks to Mark and his team for this most generous donation to our cause which will help parents and families in D&G who have suffered the tragedy of losing their baby.

Next Support Meeting

The next support group meeting is planned for

  • 7th November: 7.30pm

and we welcome anyone touched by the death of a baby to join us.

The meeting will be held at our office at 107 Irish Street Dumfries.

Many people feel that only others who have experienced the death of a baby can offer real understanding of the pain and heartbreak that they are feeling and the support group meetings allow you to connect with other bereaved parents, grandparents and others who share your pain and loss.

The support group is an informal setting and is only attended by people who themselves have lost a baby or their families. You will not be pressured to speak and sometimes it’s nice just to simply come along and listen.

If anyone would like more information about these meetings or would like to express an interest in attending then please email [email protected]
