Antenatal Clinic Counselling Room Refurbishment

image1After the success of the Rainbow Room we were approached by Nicola Harper, Midwife and Outpatient Services Manager who asked if we would consider funding and carrying out the refurbishment of the Counselling Room in the Antenatal Clinic.

We were of course only too happy to oblige.  Some of us could remember receiving bad news in the clinical looking and windowless room.  With the help of our painter and decorator friend Stan Dacre we had the room painted in warm colours and after adding new furniture and some finishing touches the room was complete.

Cumberland Society of Chartered Accountants Raise £650 For DG Sands

A big thank you goes to Lisa Murchie, Chair of the Cumberland Society of Chartered Accountants, for choosing our charity to benefit from the raffle at their recent annual dinner.  The event at the Roundthorn Hotel in Penrith was attended by 75 guests and a wonderful £650 was raised for Dumfries and Galloway Sands.

IMG_3275Lisa who works for Dodd & Co in Carlisle decided that Dumfries and Galloway Sands should benefit from the raffle because of the support that was given to her good friends Suzanne and Eddie Hewson after the tragic death of their little boy Oliver.

Thanks again to Lisa and all who attended and donated prizes.

Lockerbie lorry park function room can hold 200.  Ali and Kenny are paying for band.  It will be on Friday 16th May.

Also, there is a donation from vintage club.

Ball will not be in September perhaps in May on a Saturday.

June is Sands awareness month.

  1. Any other business

Wigtown free press should be approached when trying to get a group up and running.  Also promote work on cemetery to try to meet people in the West of the region to possibly try to get a support group going.

Network day on 9th May in Dundee.  Alison and Susan will attend.

Comment- National Sands not found to be helpful and don’t send stuff requested e.g. buckets/collection tins and balloons.  The shop has to be chased up especially when groups using email to get 20% discount.  They have previously sent wrong items.

Ali will look into fundraising materials e.g. money tins and will get refunded from group.   Also to look into t-shirts with Dumfries and Galloway Sands logo.

Create a group email and exchange mobile numbers.

*Alison will send email to group including

[email protected] and send minutes to Ann McMurray to say committee has expanded.

*Alison to contact Easterbrook to find out availability for ball.

  1. Date of next meeting –Wednesday suits most- Wed 20th May (day before Ali birthday) 7pm
Next Support Meeting

The next support group meeting is planned for

  • 7th November: 7.30pm

and we welcome anyone touched by the death of a baby to join us.

The meeting will be held at our office at 107 Irish Street Dumfries.

Many people feel that only others who have experienced the death of a baby can offer real understanding of the pain and heartbreak that they are feeling and the support group meetings allow you to connect with other bereaved parents, grandparents and others who share your pain and loss.

The support group is an informal setting and is only attended by people who themselves have lost a baby or their families. You will not be pressured to speak and sometimes it’s nice just to simply come along and listen.

If anyone would like more information about these meetings or would like to express an interest in attending then please email [email protected]
